Sunday update

Relief efforts are no longer needed for Cocoa Beach area for Sunday, October 9th. Church meetings will be held as normal. As a reminder it is Fast Sunday.

Due to the possible need of relief efforts next weekend in Deland, we have decided to move the date of our Souper Saturday activity scheduled for Oct 15th. It will instead be held on Saturday, November 12th from 10am -2 pm.

Sunday, October 9th - Cocoa Beach Cleanup

Please read the message from the Stake Presidency regarding Sunday and the clean up for Cocoa Beach. If you can help, please contact Br. Mullen or Pres. Mallory by 1:00 PM today. They will also need to know if you can carpool (drive or need a ride).

" As we are all aware the Florida's East Coast was hammered this week by Hurricane Matthew. We have been asked to provide relief service to members in the Cocoa Beach Stake this Sunday.

We are asking that Bishops and Branch Presidents initiate the plan to contact all of your families to see who can participate in this one day effort. The plan is to provide service to church members this weekend. A more detailed plan is being developed to help all of the Lord's children starting next weekend.

Here are the details for this Sunday:

We are to meet at the Cocoa Stake Center, 1801 South Fisk Blvd. Rockledge FL at 8 am Sunday Morning. Members will receive instructions at that time.

Brothers, Sisters, and responsible youth 12 and up are invited to attend.

Members should bring any tools that they can, i.e. chainsaws, rakes, gloves, etc. Everyone needs to be self sustaining as far as water, food, etc. Since it is the Sabbath, they are strongly encouraged to pack these items so that they do not have to shop on Sunday. Also, supplies may be limited."

There has not been a determination concerning Sunday meetings.

Women's Broadcast

We had a wonderful time mingling with our fellow sisters, trying new sweet creations and hearing inspired messages from our church leaders. Thank you to everyone who made the sweet treats. We know your time is precious and are thankful to you for sharing your baking (or shopping) talent with us. Here are some of the words I took away from the conference.

Embrace the improvements of others and continue in the pursuit of improvement. Encourage progress!

Sis. Stephens
Lay your burdens at the feet of your Savior. Trust Heavenly Father's plan he has for you. You don't have to carry pain (that comes from the unrighteousness of others) alone.

Sis.Oscarson (YW Pres.)

  • We need women who have courage like Eve.
  • Don't fail to teach principles because of the fear to offend someone.
  • Be bold and straightforward when teaching children. If you don't teach, Satan will.

Pres. Uchtdorf

  • No matter how much faith you have, it can't : 1. Violate another person's agency. It can invite, pursuade, but it will not compel. 2. force our will upon God. No matter how right we think we are or how sincere we are.
  • Purpose of faith is to empower us to act on God's will. Trust he knows what's best and act accordingly.
  • Walk by whatever faith you have and seek for more.
  • Don't give up, 4th floor, 4th door. If the missionaries quit before they came to that door, he may not have ever met his sweet wife.

We had a great time searching for our... Water sources! June 1st kicks off Hurricane season in Florida. We had a great discussion in the dark (okay it wasn't that dark after all) about how to find our water sources, what to include in a 3 day kit, and heard life experiences from Jeannie about surviving after a hurricane. We enjoyed snack pack pudding for dessert and made our own emergency candle kit. We all decided we needed to go on a field trip to Sam's club to get one of these carts to haul all our water and heavy supplies.
